MLM stands for multi-level marketing. Another way to describe this type of business is to call it MLM network marketing. This type of business is for anyone who wants to get away from the nine to five grind. In MLM, just like any other type of business, you sell a service or product. In MLM, unlike other types of business, you have to build a downline. Your MLM network marketing downline is comprised of other people you recruit into your business. They sell the same product or service you do but you also make money off what they sell. Generally, the money you make is ten to fifteen percent of their sales. This doesn't sound like much but you can imagine how lucrative this business can be if you have a MLM network marketing downline of ten, a dozen, or a hundred people or more.
Not only do you make money off your MLM network marketing downline, but your downline makes money off their downline and so on. Everyone makes money. That's why most advertisements for MLM network marketing opportunities promise lots of money, cars, houses and early retirement.
Motivation is a Must
The main obstacle in MLM is keeping your MLM network marketing downline motivated. They must be motivated to sell their share of the product or service you're offering but they also must be motivated to recruit others to do the same. Without new recruits, the MLM network marketing downline will cease to grow and the money will eventually slow or stop. For this type of business to work, everyone involved must be enthusiastic, motivated and they must believe in what they're doing.

Eventually, when you've built enough people to join your MLM network marketing downline, you will be able to stop selling yourself. Eventually, with enough money coming in, you will be able to retire and just collect all the dividends that come in as a result of all your hard work. In MLM, this is the ultimate goal and reward, to collect the money while not having to work much for it.
